A return to “normality” still seems a little way off, but the beginning of a new year and the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine has undeniably focused attentions on a post-pandemic world.  One thing is for certain, the renewed focus on hygiene across all areas of design and construction is a key focus as we understand what that world looks like.

Before the pandemic, we wouldn’t hesitate to blow out candles on a birthday cake, then share it among our friends and family.  We would stand on a train or bus, clutching a handrail without a second thought, and the honest ones among us would admit to coughing in our hands, then forgetting to wash them afterwards.

In commercial washrooms, while hygiene has always been important it might not have been taken as seriously as it should have been, especially considering how fast we know that infection can spread in enclosed spaces.  Moving forwards, this renewed focus on hygiene will undoubtedly be reflected in commercial spaces, and placed high on the agenda during the planning of any washroom project.  With this in mind, it’s a good idea for contractors working on these projects to read up on the latest thinking when it comes to the hygienic solutions that are available.

This is a key reason why we’ve created this resource for contractors and our new mini-Bluebook on hygiene, to help you support your customers’ needs when it comes to giving them innovative products that boost cleanliness across their premises.  So, let’s look at a few key product options that will help prevent the spread of bacteria across washrooms.

Going Touchless

Touchless brassware and flush plates are a familiar sight to your customers but our Sensorflow 21 collection takes this up a notch, as these hands-free, electronic taps have remote sensors which detect the user and control the on-demand water flow.  This controlled release of water makes for a much more efficient product, by reducing water usage and ultimately running costs.  Your customer can also programme these taps to run for however long they want when activated, which is a great way to encourage users to wash their hands for a full 20 seconds, as recommended by the Government and the NHS.

Full Hygiene Solutions

Touchless products can be a great start, but there are other solutions which can be incorporated into a washroom to ensure hygiene is maintained.  For example, people are often astonished when confronted with how far bacteria can travel in water splashing out of urinals.  Our Sphero collection tackles this problem with a unique anti-splash design, which minimises splashing onto the surrounding environment. Its nozzle spreader also makes sure that more of the bowl is covered per flush.  Their rimless design make them easier to clean, and their ceramic edges have been made to reduce surface cleaning and to stop water retention, preventing the spread of bacteria.  The collection also features wall-mounted products that make cleaning even more thorough, as all surfaces are easy to reach.

Our innovative Aquablade® flush technology is also a must-have in commercial spaces as it ensures that 95% of the surface area of the toilet bowl is rinsed while remaining 25% quieter than equivalent products.  Aquablade can also lower the risk of germs entering the atmosphere, thanks to the reduced aerosol effect in each flush.

These are just some of the products can be used to deliver an ultra-hygienic washroom for your customers. To find out more about how you can create better, cleaner spaces with your upcoming projects no matter what size they are, have a read through our new mini-Bluebook on hygiene.
